Learn To Swim

Klim Swim is a technical and skill focused swimming school.

We work on developing your child’s stroke technique and ability whilst focussing heavily on important water safety skills. Along with our small class sizes, we believe this is our point of difference from other swim schools.

 

For those wanting to join lessons with Klim Swim an assessment is recommended prior to enrolment. This can be booked in for a weeknight or weekend and ensures your child is in the correct level when they commence their lessons.

Beginner 1

Age Group: > 3 years

Class size: 4 max

Duration: 30 minutes

Instructor: always in water

Learning objectives:

  • Build confidence entering the water safely and remaining in it through games and songs.

  • Expose the students to fun experiences that can be enjoyed in the water.

  • Introducing them to putting the face in the water

  • Assisted movement of the legs in a horizontal position in the water

  • Assisted floating to build some familiarity with the horizontal position

  • Assisted doggy paddle

  • Assisted jumps

Beginner 2

Age Group: > 3 years

Class size: 4 max

Duration: 30 minutes

Instructor: always in water

Learning objectives:

  • Confidently enter the water safely and remaining in it happily throughout the lesson

  • Prepare the students for Level 1 where submersion, floating and kicking are practiced by:

  • Introduction to kicking independently on a board

  • Movement of the legs in a horizontal position in the water with forward propulsion

  • Happy to put face in a blow bubbles whilst kicking and doggy paddling

  • Independent floating on front and back

  • Happy to go underwater with assistance to retrieve an object

  • Independent jump and returns on the wall

Level 1

Class size: 4 max

Duration: 30 minutes

Instructor: always in water

Learning objectives:

  • Perform a safe entry into the water and safe exit

  • Gain confidence being in deep water and able to submerge and get out of pool unassisted

  • Submerge underwater to retrieve an object on the bottom of the pool with assistance

  • Float on front and back without assistance

  • Torpedo kick on front for 5 metres

  • Torpedo kick on back for 5 metres

  • Complete a basic introductory kneeling dive

  • Assisted treading water

Level 2

Class size: 4 max

Duration: 30 minutes

Instructor: always in water

Learning objectives:

  • Torpedo kick on back

  • Swim Backstroke for 10 metres

  • Swim Freestyle for 10 metres with

  • Independently tread water

  • Introduction to sculling on front and back

  • Complete an assisted standing dive

Level 3

Class size: 6 max

Duration: 45 minutes

Instructor: always in water

Learning objectives:

  • Swim Freestyle for 12.5 metres with: bilateral breathing and catch up style

  • Swim Backstroke for 12.5 metres

  • Demonstrate basic Breaststroke kick on their back

  • Demonstrate correct Breaststroke kick on their front

  • Sculling on front and back with kick

  • Introduction to survival backstroke

  • Perform standing dive

  • Independent treading water

Level 4

Class size: 8 max

Duration: 45 minutes

Instructor: out of water

Learning objectives:

  • Swim Freestyle for 25 metres with correct technique

  • Swim Backstroke for 25 metres

  • Introduce Breaststroke arms and co-ordinate with the kick

  • Swim survival Backstroke

  • Introduction to dolphin kick

  • Introduction to somersaults in the water

  • Independent treading water

  • Sculling on front and back with no kick

Pre-Squad

Class size: 8 max

Duration: 45 minutes

Instructor: out of water

Learning objectives:

  • Swim Freestyle for 50 metres with correct technique

  • Swim Backstroke for 50 metres

  • Swim Breaststroke for 25 metres with correct timing

  • Swim dolphin kick for 25 metres

  • Swim one arm butterfly for 25 metres

  • 12.5 metres basic butterfly

  • Introduction to tumble turns at the wall

  • Independent treading water

  • Introduction to side stroke

Squad

Class size: 8 max

Duration: 60 minutes

Instructor: out of water

Learning objectives:

  • Swim Freestyle for 100 metres

  • Swim Backstroke for 100 metres

  • Swim Breaststroke for 100 metres with correct breath timing and propulsive kick into glide phase

  • Survival Backstroke for 50 metres

  • Swim Butterfly for 50 metres with correct pull through and rhythmic and propulsive kick

  • Swim Sidestroke for 50 metres

  • Perform tumble turns on all laps

  • Developing breaststroke and butterfly turns.
